Imitation, Flattery and All That

Whilst doing a quick search this morning for all things ‘Little Tree Software’ (as I am always interested who is linking to us), I happened upon a ‘web design’ firm in Poland called BMF Projects, check out their website at http://bmf.com.pl/. I say ‘their’ website, but I really mean ‘our’ website, as they have completely ripped off our design. They have also blatantly copied our CSS, images and XHTML.

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but we feel this is edging towards carbon copy. Even their logo file if called little-tree-software-logo.png. We’ve emailed them thanking them for at least removing the word ‘beautiful’ from our strap line and have offered our services to work on that logo. We’re nice guys like that.

On a more serious note, James agonised over our design for a long time given how picky we both are. We’re upset to see ‘our baby’ mistreated like that.

For those interested, below is the email we sent them using our their contact form:

Hi there!

Matt and James here from Little Tree Software. We’d like to thank you for shamelessly copying our website design. We’d like to think you will do the right thing and at least change the colours or at best come up with your own design – being a web design company and all. At least you removed the word ‘beautiful’.

But, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and we are flattered. Just to let you know that we will be blogging about this and of course, linking to your site.

Good luck doing your own web design in the future, if you need some help with your logo don’t hesitate to get in contact with us!

Kind regards,

Matt Deaves and James King,
Little Tree Software
